While it sort of exists already, the viewing of the current balance of each account is an absolute necessity. This way, it will be easy to check accounts with the accuracy of accounts against an external register. For example, if the balance a bank is reporting is different than the amount showing in the books, obviously something if wrong.
This is another good reason to use the REST style APIs I've been working on.
