Checks

I'm wondering if the current procedure of creating a journal entry upon check writing is appropriate. I've been wrestling with this because if I write a check, a journal entry is made, and then when I import the checking account statement, I have a duplicate transaction.

I might create the check as a note, and then provide the ability to create a journal entry with a simple optional click. Otherwise, it will just remain a note. The journal entry and general ledger would link with the check note after the check has been cached, and since they are two separate entities, the dates would not conflict. I think I like that idea.

Any other thoughts? Comments are welcome.

Thanks for getting back to me.

1st - I forgot my password to the forums. TomP & TomP2 are the same people. Please email me my password to the TomP registered email.

2nd - I think loading the transactions and auto matching them by check number would be a good idea. Perhaps highlightings where amounts differ. I'm not an accounting wiz. I'm a programmer by trade. A check box - yup it's in the bank - would also do the trick. Followed by a ballancing report.

3rd - The line I'm reffering to is the page address that's at the bottom of the invoice.

4th - On invoices, it's really setup for items being sold. Not hours being works. I do both. Also it would be good if individual line items could be dated.

date, number of hours, rate of pay, line total. I think what it need is a couple of different field choices for invoices.

I'm planning to try this with a small group I do some work with before trying with my business.

thanks,

Tom

Hi TomP - I actually use the invoices for hours worked as well as hosting, but I attach a spreadsheet for the time work analysis.

PBooks is still actively developed, a stable version 1 is coming up soon, but to keep it stable, all future features will go into the next version, and only bug fixes will go into version one.

All the forum passwords get encrypted, so I'll include a method to reset your password for TomP. In the meantime, feel free to use TomP2.
