Tax Season 2008 Preparations

Now that tax season is starting and so I'm revisiting a lot of previous bookkeeping entries. I had a great discussion with my accountant and came up with a good plan to clean up some of my even older bookkeeping entries.

Unfortunately, some of my old bookkeeping entries are in Quickbooks. Ugh! My distaste for Quickbooks is one of the reasons why I started PBooks. Nevertheless, I do have to give Intuit kudos for making available for download previous versions of their software for use by those who purchased the software and still have their license keys (like me).

I was able to download Quickbooks 2006 Pro and open my old Quickbooks file and get the tiny bit of information I need to fix on transaction in PBooks. I love it when that happens!

But anyway, back to the plan for my taxes... I'm working on a process to create spreadsheets of all my bank and credit card accounts month by month, reconciling them as I go. This won't be that much work as I've entered a lot of the data into PBooks already, and I just added a new feature to the ledger CSV export to include a column for the matching accounts. While that export isn't a finished product by any means, its a very useful quick view of an account to make sure that things are in order. I believe its close to being a trial balance.
