Plant disease and injury can be costly.

Don't take a risk with your plants.

Plant disease and injury can be costly. The Plant Clinic provides solutions to what's attacking the health of your plants. We provide plant and insect identification; nematode assays; diagnosis of injury from disease, insects, weeds, and chemicals; and help with nutrient-related issues.

We've been here for you since 1976.

The Plant Clinic is managed through the Crop Sciences Department of University of Illinois College of Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences and relies on input from many departments, including both research and Extension components. Most of the diagnostic work is done at the Plant Clinic, but specialists are consulted as needed in the areas of botany, entomology, horticulture, mycology, plant pathology, soils, soil fertility, and weed science. Originally, the Clinic helped Extension advisors (now called educators) diagnose and identify the wide variety of plant-related inquiries in field offices across the state. We continue that work today and now offer the convenience of accepting samples directly from the public. Together, we provide solutions to your plant problems.

We offer

  • Diagnosis of plant diseases and insect pests
  • Plant, insect, arthropod, and weed identification
  • Nematode assays
  • Management recommendations included with diagnoses
  • Visual assessment of chemical injury (field crops only)
